(Abstract)
This paper analyses the development of Indian environmental law from the perspective of an investigation into the autonomy of the legal system of independent India. Particularly, the paper focuses on the environmental jurisprudence which emerged from the late Eighties as a result of the judicial activism of the Indian High Courts and Supreme Court and highlights the multifarious origins of an Indian jurisprudence which can constitute an original contribution to global legal evolution in this field.
